Congressman Robert Hurt, who represents the 5th District of Virginia, visited the Virginia Institute of Autism (VIA) on April 28, 2011. The Congressman learned more about the diverse needs of children and adults on the autism spectrum. Congressman Hurt and VIA Executive Director, Dr. Ethan Long, discussed the importance of intensive, individualized, evidence-based education and treatment and the advantages of the successful public/private partnership developed at VIA.
“Congressman Hurt visited each of our classrooms and spent time interacting one-on-one with our students and staff,” said Ethan Long, PhD, BCBA-D. “He took a genuine interest in learning more about how VIA employs evidence-based practices to help our students, families and fellow educators better serve persons with autism.”
