Adult Academy Program Associate Brittany Mentor came to VIA one year ago from her previous position at Oakland School in Troy, VA. “That gave me some experience with special needs population,” says Brittany, talking about what brought her to VIA, “and I wanted to be able to do more.”
Brittany joined VIA with extensive experience and training in social services. She earned her BS in Behavioral Science from Wilmington University. She has Associate degrees in both Drug and Alcohol Counseling and in Human Services, as well as a certificate in Child Advocacy.
Besides her training, Brittany brings a cool head, a spirit of fun, and a lot of compassion and understanding to helping build engagement opportunities for VIA’s adult clients. “She’s also done a great job of adding an arts and crafts component to the Adult Academy,” says program director Mark Seymour.
Brittany explains what led her to develop the arts programming: “A few of our clients have a lot of creativity, but not a lot of outlets. A number of them have really flourished with it. It’s great to watch them create on their own.”
