VIA students are getting in touch with their inner Picasso this week!
Charlottesville Therapeutic Recreation is partnering with VSA Charlottesville/Albemarle, which promotes arts experiences for people with disabilities, to provide art courses for VIA students.
This six week pilot program pairs local artists with students at schools across the city, including the Virginia Institute of Autism. The program came to VIA with the help of our Family Resource Navigator, Hilary Nagel, who is working to bring arts enrichment opportunities to VIA students.
Javier Lorenzo, a Charlottesville artist, works with four VIA students once a week. He encourages them to express their creativity however they want – they can choose to draw, make new designs with different shaped pieces of paper, or dance around the room.
