Parents’ Night Out

January 31, 2014 | Family Resource Navigator

Parents and kids got a night out last weekend thanks to Parents’ Night Out!

12 VIA families enjoyed round two of our new respite program, planned by our Family Resource Navigator Hilary Nagel. The program gives kids a fun and safe place to go, while their parents have a night to themselves.

Parents’ Night Out is part of VIA’s initiative to serve the whole family – not just the child with autism. Parents say it is a night to look forward to.

“Why do we love Parents night Out? Let me count the ways,” said Kelly Senesac, whose son Alex goes to VIA. “Alex gets to go play in a familiar place with people that want to be with him, he is safe and well cared for, the staff already know him, Bob and I get to take a little break knowing Alex is in good hands AND having fun.”

Nagel and her team of VIA staff members work to make sure Parents’ Night Out is just as much a Kids’ Night Out.

“Several kids tried new games, enjoyed eating popcorn and hanging with friends while watching a movie,” said Nagel.

Nagel plans to offer another Parents’ Night Out in the spring, and move forward toward VIA’s goal of helping families overcome the challenges of autism.
