Seven community-minded, fitness-minded companies have signed on to become the inaugural class in the “Company Challenge” – a competition raising funds and awareness and participation for the Virginia Institute of Autism’s Run for Autism 5K. The run / walk / fundraise race is one of our area’s most popular fitness and social impact events, drawing over 1000 participants every year and raising over $125,000 for autism services in our region. This year’s race takes place on April 13th.
The Company Challenge is the brainchild of Elaine Cheng, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of VIA. Run for Autism 5K,” said Cheng, who is an avid runner herself, “is one of the best runs in the area, with an undeniable mission. This is so exciting because our town does not have an active company challenge running event. It will allow us to connect with other organizations, build teams, and promote healthy living.”
The Company Challenge participants are: SHINE Systems (also the Finish Line Sponsor for the race), the CFA Institute, Silverchair Information Systems, Worldstrides, Specialized Insurance, Children’s Dentistry of Charlottesville, and Brandscape (running under their YourRaceBase.com brand). Besides helping to raise awareness for autism services, the companies are competing to field the highest percent of employees participating, highest total fundraising, and best team theme. Bragging rights are on the line.
“Oh, Silverchair is planning to win every category,” said Susan Dawson, Chief People Officer for Silverchair Information Services. “We have a big group of runners, and we love to engage as a company in important community activities. VIA’s mission matters to us. We hire a number of employees on the autism spectrum and several others have family who are affected.”
“We are so grateful to the people and organizations participating in this year’s inaugural company challenge,” said VIA’s President Ethan Long. “Building bridges of connection is a large part of what we do for our clients. These leading local businesses show how strong the community response always is when we ask for support.”
