November 13- Supporting Transformative Autism Research at UVA’s Second Annual Autism Summit. 9:00 AM-4:00 PM. Our friends at UVA STAR will hold the second annual conference for self advocates, families, service providers, clinicians, educators, and friends on Friday, November 13, 2020. November 17- Promoting Independence Through the Use of Visual Supports. 6:007:00 PM. Our friends at Piedmont Regional Education Program are offering a two-night workshop (two sessions offered via ZOOM. The topics include four different basic visual supports that can be used to promote independence in individuals with ASD.

December 2- City Center NOVA’s Experience and Innovative Framework: A Virtual Discussion on Independent Living for Adults with DD. 6:30-8:00 p.m. CRAAG (Charlottesville Region Autism Action Group) and DBHDS (Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services) Region 1 Housing have partnered to organize a Forum spotlighting City Center NOVA’s experience.  At the Forum, parent leaders from City Center NOVA will share their experiences and framework for expanding independent living opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities (DD).

This is a free, virtual discussion on Zoom. Register early as space is limited. We encourage households to watch as a group to allow the greatest number of people to attend. The meeting room opens at 6:20 p.m.

December 3- JCH Parents Virtual Town Hall- 6:00-7:00 PM. Please join VIA President and CEO Ethan Long and JCH School leadership for our next family town hall discussion. In an effort to increase the opportunity for participation, we will begin the Town Hall at 6:00 pm.

We will discuss:

  • Details and questions about our new 3:2 alternating schedule, which begins on December 7
  • Planning for holiday celebrations at the school
  • Progress update on the planning for, and renovations of, the Center for Adolescent and Adult Autism Services (CAAAS)
