James C. Hormel School
The Virginia Institute of Autism’s James C. Hormel School, a non-profit organization located in Charlottesville, has a current opening for a full-time Speech Language Pathologist! We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, talented person who is dedicated to helping people overcome the challenges of autism.
This position works with the SLP Supervisor, Director of Education Services, Clinical Directors, Supervisors, Teachers and Instructor-level staff to develop and provide educational and clinical programming related to communication goals in the classroom for students with autism and related disabilities. The SLP engages in active consultation with all classroom staff, during which the SLP observes the staff work with the student, reviews data, models various clinical and teaching strategies for the staff, provides corrective feedback to staff, and directly works with the student in order to revise or probe techniques. The SLP will serve as an active member of the students’ Individualized Education Plan teams and will provide parent consult and training as needed. The SLP takes an active role in ensuring all speech services are delivered in accordance to current evidence-based practices and are provided in an ethical manner.
Qualifications include Master’s degree in Communication Disorders, Speech Pathology or related field required; current, active SLP license from the Virginia Board of Audiology and SLP required; CCC-SLP licensure required; previous experience with augmentative communication and children with autism is preferred.
